As part of an interview in connection with PBSs upcoming airings of “Macbeth” and “Hamlet” in April, Sir Patrick Stewart tells FRONTLINEs Digital Nation that he can’t condense life into a 140 character Tweet, and explains why he is afraid to start “gaming. FRONTLINE “Digital Nation” is a multiplatform project exploring what it means to be human in a 21st-century digital world. Watch the TV documentary now online at www.pbs.org In a unique collaboration with the public that began on the “Digital Nation” Web site, award-winning producer Rachel Dretzin and commentator Douglas Rushkoff probe how digital technology is changing nearly every aspect of modern culture, from the ways we think and learn to the ways in which we socialize, work and even conduct war. Is it possible to multitask well? Is too much digital media bad for young brains? Should we fight wars by remote control? What are the real-world effects of immersion in virtual worlds? Watch online beginning and share your story of life in the digital age at www.pbs.org . FRONTLINE is produced by WGBH Boston and is broadcast nationwide on PBS. Funding for FRONTLINE is provided through the support of PBS viewers. Major funding for FRONTLINE is provided by The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. I really love this piece because it shows that there is a middle ground between unqualified exuberance and alarmist rejection when it comes to digital technologies. In the person of Patrick Stewart we have someone who has lived a life of letters, of deep cultural and intellectual engagement, embracing technologies that he feels add value to his life and rejecting others.
At first I thought he said “gay men.” Then I thought for a second and confirmed my belief that he said gay men.
Good for him, I hate Twitter and never used it and never will.
if he did game, what’d be the name on his live account or PSN account?
I’d laugh if he got addicted to Star Trek Online…the irony of it.
@Bellerophon2200 hes half of kirks personality… appearantly didnt get the hair…
Ah, Patrick Stewart, the wisest non-captain kurk I have ever known of.
Do gods age, die, rot, and get eaten by worms and maggots?

No. He’s a god, a god who acts, but still a god.
No. He’s an actor, an excellent actor, but still just an actor.
